MENTAL FUNDAMENTALS: Shifting Neural Pathways - Workshop Recording
The most fundamental steps of authentic inner work are often overlooked in the online & modern approach to many spiritual-physical practices like MEDITATION, YOGA, QI GONG, BREATHWORK, FASTING & ABSTINENCE. This is due to fixating on the end result rather than the process, rushing past foundational preparation and the inner work at the risk of serious damage to our psyche / physical health.
Mark English and Sophia Tara, trauma-informed practitioners of Qi Gong, Traditional Breathwork & Polyvagal Theory, as well as cultivators, travellers, students & speakers, come together to share some of their most important insights along the path in this in-depth, highly comprehensive and well-structured workshop. They discuss mental pointers, physical tools & techniques, but most importantly concrete and clear-cut guidelines on setting the most sustainable foundation and intention to any practice, of you truly wish to benefit from.
‘Mental Fundamentals’ exposes some of the deep-set mental programs, common setbacks and overlooked aspects of the inner work that takes place, alongside a spiritual/physical discipline, non-dualistic/self inquiry approach, to ensure sustainable cultivation while staying true to the spirit of the practice.
This one-time event is the most comprehensive and inclusive covering of these topics that either Mark or Sophia have done to date.
More specifically, the workshop covers:
The intention behind a practice: cultivating mind to support body
The mind vs body debate in medicine, psychology & religion, and what our ancient ancestors in Greece, Egypt & Asia had to say about this connection.
The root of disease in the physical body and its correlation with the mind / psychological distortion.
The subtle messiah syndrome, superiority complex and fear/lack narratives which may be fuelling a practice and why these are not sustainable.
The taoist and non dual approach to the practice and the cultivation of the mind to navigate triggers, trauma response and relapse.
Neural Pathways & Addiction : The phantom urges & habit desires that we still store in our limbs, tissues and neural pathways.
From subconscious to conscious: the levels of emotional & trauma release.
The risk of of internal or external injury in a practice and its root causes
The “superpowers” that appear as effects during the practice and what they truly mean: kundalini, iron body and more.
Humility as the foundation to the practice & the inner observation that comes from outer observation.
Food, hydration, sexual temperance (and why we left this branch of the workshop for last)
Trauma response and how to correctly soothe and nourish this part of ourself and the underlying trauma response it stems from.
this 3 hour workshop is 2 hours of discussion covering the topics listed above followed by an additional hour of Q&A. All questions were answered.
The workshop includes video references, clips & book recommendations attached in powerpoint slide format.
